Engagement Rate Calculator

Quick answer

Engagement rate measures how actively an audience interacts with content. The standard formula: Engagement Rate = (Total Engagements ÷ Followers) × 100 — or divide by Reach instead for a per-content view. Pick your platform below, enter the numbers, and get your rate instantly.

Engagement rate

(Likes + Comments + Saves + Shares) ÷ Followers × 100

Followers vs. reach.

The follower-based rate is the classic public benchmark — easy to calculate for any account, including competitors, but it penalizes large accounts and ignores how many people actually saw the post. The reach-based rate measures how compelling the content itself was to the people it reached — the better internal quality metric, but it needs analytics access. Use follower-based to compare accounts; use reach-based to compare your own posts.

What moves engagement rate.

  • Content format: platforms reward what they're currently pushing, and formats rise and fall.
  • Audience quality: bought or aged followers crater the rate; a smaller real audience beats a bigger dead one.
  • Posting cadence: dormant accounts decay; oversaturated ones fatigue.
  • Hook strength: most engagement is decided in the first seconds of attention.
  • Community habits: accounts that reply and converse train audiences to engage.

Rates also naturally differ by platform and shrink as accounts grow, so compare like with like: your account against its own history, or against same-size accounts on the same platform.

Questions, answered.

If the rate isn't where you want it, the content engine is the fix.
