Social Media Marketing Packages: What's Actually Inside (A Buyer's Guide)

September 6, 2026

Every agency sells "packages." Almost none of them explain what's inside in a way a buyer can compare. This is the plain-English version — what packages typically contain at each level, and the questions that expose whether a package is built to perform or just to bill.

The anatomy of a package

Strip away the branding and nearly every social media package is built from six components:

Platforms managed. How many channels, and which ones. More isn't better — the right two beat a scattered five.

Content volume and mix. How many posts, and crucially, how much of it is video versus static graphics. Video costs more to produce and earns more reach; a package's video count tells you more about its value than its total post count.

Community management. Whether anyone answers comments, DMs, and reviews — and how often. This is the component most often quietly excluded, and its absence shows publicly.

Strategy involvement. Whether a senior person is actually thinking about your account monthly, or whether you're on a content treadmill run by whoever's available.

Paid media. Whether ad management is included, and whether ad spend is separate (it should be — paid directly to platforms, from accounts you own).

Reporting. Whether you get a screenshot of follower counts or a report tied to business outcomes.

How the tiers usually shake out

Entry tiers cover one or two platforms with modest posting and light reporting — enough for a consistent, professional presence, not enough to expect growth by themselves.

Mid tiers are where real programs start: multi-platform, meaningful video volume, active community management, and an actual strategy cadence. Most growing businesses belong here.

Top tiers add paid media, creator content, and senior strategic leadership — organic and paid run as one system. This is where social stops being a channel and becomes an engine.

The questions that reveal everything

Ask any agency these five, and the package explains itself: How many pieces of short-form video are included each month? Who responds to comments and messages, and how fast? Who actually works on my account, and how senior are they? What happens to ad spend — does it pass through you or stay in my accounts? And what does the monthly report measure besides followers?

Vague answers to clear questions are their own answer.

We build our packages from these exact components — and if you're not sure what level your business needs, a free audit is the honest way to find out.
